Earlier this week I wrote about Zulily, a daily deal site for moms, babies, and kids. I was referring to their email program and the fact that the unsubscribe mechanism was in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act of 2008. I am happy to report that a couple of days later, Zulily made a change. It’s not exactly the best way to implement an unsubscribe/preference center in that it still requires me to type in my email address, but it is compliant.
In a perfect world an unsubscribe page should populate the email address field. The default setting should be unsubscribe from all mailings, but there should be other options. You should be able to decrease the frequency, unsubscribe from a particular message, or any other particulars that might apply to a program.
I am glad Zulily made this change, it will help them in the long run. Here’s the new and improved setup.
