Foreclosure Law Firm Has Disgusting Halloween Party

You want to know why people are pissed off at the 1% and the way the financial and real estate markets are manipulated?  Here is just about the best example of absolute prickish behavior I have ever seen.  This is a story from the New York Times.  The culprits are at the law firm of Steven J Baum in New York, a firm that represents banks and mortgage servicers.  They had a Halloween party at the office and decided to make fun of all the poor schmucks whose houses they were taking.

Since it would be in very bad taste and not good for my karma to wish cancer on these miserable human beings, I will just wish something lovely on them like genital warts.

Here are some pictures.

I was just in France, so the story of Marie Antoinette is fresh in my mind.  Does the phrase “Let Them Eat Cake” have any meaning to these people?

From the NYT.

On Friday, the law firm of Steven J. Baum threw a Halloween party. The firm, which is located near Buffalo, is what is commonly referred to as a “foreclosure mill” firm, meaning it represents banks and mortgage servicers as they attempt to foreclose on homeowners and evict them from their homes. Steven J. Baum is, in fact, the largest such firm in New York; it represents virtually all the giant mortgage lenders, including Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo.

When we spoke later, she added that the snapshots are an accurate representation of the firm’s mind-set. “There is this really cavalier attitude,” she said. “It doesn’t matter that people are going to lose their homes.” Nor does the firm try to help people get mortgage modifications; the pressure, always, is to foreclose. I told her I wanted to post the photos on The Times’s Web site so that readers could see them. She agreed, but asked to remain anonymous because she said she fears retaliation.
