The Beatles: Rock Band – Old People Buy Console Games! 1

9.9.09 marks a new era in video gaming.  The launch of The Beatles: Rock Band this week is one of the most anticipated game releases in a while.  I joke about the “olds” being excited about this one since, in video gaming years, I am “over the hill” myself.  This Wednesday has just about been declared “The Beatles” day, with the release of the game as well as The Beatles Stereo Box Set.beatles

It looks like a lot of fun.  I haven’t ever played any of the “guitar” games on my Xbox 360 or Wii.  (In case you haven’t noticed, I’m almost never into hip things.)  I am a fan of the Beatles though.  There were a couple of years in my early twenties when I really discovered The Beatles, and I listened to a ton of their music.  I don’t go out of my way to listen anymore, but won’t shy away from a Beatles tune either.  It would be pretty interesting to hang out at a retail location this week and check out the “vitals” on people who purchase the game.  I like anything that pushes these kinds of activities to bigger groups.  It’s fun to talk about things you’re interested in with an entirely new group of people.

I will be interested to hear the reasons why people are buying the game.  Do they just love the “Rock Band” franchise?  Are they long time fans of The Beatles, and it seems fun to pretend they’re one of the Fab Four?  Or, are they post-Beatles, but want to learn more about the music?  Call me cynical, but I’m not sure these are the questions we’ll be asking about the upcoming Guitar Hero Van Halen release.
