John McCain wants us to believe he has a social media voice. Of course he does, he’s got to have one. All of us must have a social media voice. We’ve all got to build our own personal brands. I think we would all agree that a voice is necessary in our new digital/social world. If you are a mover and a shaker, or have any ambitions to become one, you have to be sharing your opinions. When could this not be a good idea?
If you don’t have your own voice.
I give you the example of John McCain, United States Senator from Arizona.
This tweet is in response to some mindless rambling about the tanning booth tax from Snooki of Jersey Shore fame.
@Sn00ki u r right, I would never tax your tanning bed! Pres Obama’s tax/spend policy is quite The Situation. but I do rec wearing sunscreen!
There is so much wrong with this.
- McCain would have never found a tweet from Snooki.
- He could have never figured out the account had zeros instead of the letter o.
- McCain wouldn’t know a u or an r if they crawled in his hearing aid.
- If McCain knows about “The Situation” we’re all screwed.
- 1300+ tweets. John needs to get to work.
Obviously this isn’t John McCain’s Twitter account. I am sure a 21 year-old Harvard grad staffer writes these. Nothing here fits. It’s disingenuous and insulting. Social media is all about being yourself and sharing your own opinions. If you don’t have any, then don’t share. If you pay somebody to be your voice and you a 75 year-old man, they shouldn’t write like a 15 year-old girl.
