I am a huge fan of the Amazon Alexa line. I have a Tap that I take on the road with me and love. The Tap is a push button device, without the “Alexa” always on command. I was thrilled to learn this week, that my Tap has been upgraded to an always on device.
Enable Hands-Free on Amazon Tap
You can use the wake word “Alexa” with Amazon Tap.
To enable hands-free mode on your Amazon Tap, in the Alexa app:
- Open the left navigation panel, and then select Settings.
- Under Alexa Devices, select your Amazon Tap device.
- Select Hands-free Mode to toggle the hands free feature.
You can use the same steps to disable hands-free mode. When you turn hands-free on or off, the device plays a tone to confirm the change. The only wake word available for hands-free on Amazon Tap is “Alexa.”
While in hands-free mode, you can disable the microphone by pressing the play/pause button for three seconds. The device doesn’t respond to the wake word until you enable the microphone again using the same process.
When you’ve enabled hands-free mode, a fully charged battery provides up to 8 hours of continuous playback when off the Charging Cradle. During this time, Amazon Tap doesn’t enter sleep mode automatically.
