Great news for the Texas Rangers today as they signed a last minute deal with Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish. It’s great to see the Rangers keep trying to get over that final hump. Now, I am going to be a crazy greedy baseball fan and hope they can somehow sign Prince Fielder as well.
Go Rangers!
ARLINGTON — Japanese pitching ace Yu Darvish has signed a six-year contract to play for the American League Champion Texas Rangers, the team announced late Wednesday afternoon.
The Rangers paid $51.7 million last month for the exclusive right to negotiate with the 25-year-old pitcher; the deadline to reach an agreement was Wednesday.
The formal announcement of the deal is expected at Rangers Ballpark during a news conference at 5:15 p.m. Darvish will not be in attendance; he is expected to travel to Texas later this week, the team said.
Darvish, a right-hander, is considered to be Japan’s top pitcher, playing the last seven years for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan’s Pacific League.
